The Black Bear King

On the first day of spring the King Black Bear’s baby was born. It was the white tailed deer, Sam’s job to teach and protect little Teddi until he was ready to become king.

As Teddi prowled through the depth of the forest a plunder of light shined from above. He stumbled into a wild flower meadow looking up he noticed an object flying in the air. WHOOSH! An American Kestrel dove down for its dinner. The grasshopper was not fast enough, he was eaten out in the distance.

He walked over to the pond to get a drink of water when he sees a large moose. The moose bows his antlers to the king. Teddi watches the moose eat seaweed that was contaminated with flatworm larva. Sam tells Teddi that the moose had just eaten a flatworm and it will slowly eat all of the moose’s food.

He walked into the forest, watching bees buzzing in their hive. He notices a Yellow-Breasted Chat. The Chat was working busily at a nest for her soon to come eggs. The Sugar Maple that the nest is in was not harmed by any way by this.

Then the bear smelled something funny under the ground. It was an earthworm defecating. He was fertilizing the soil he had eaten.

Sam informs Teddi that he has learned the ways of the forest and he is ready for his coronation. The coronation was on a beautiful cliff over-looking a waterfall. There his father bestowed the crown and kingdom.
